The Last Chapter in the Life of Mrs. Sammy Davis, Jr. chronicles the last five years in the life of Altovise Davis.

Altovise Gore Davis died on March 14, 2009. At the time she was embroiled in a legal battle over the rights to the Sammy Davis, Jr. Estate, and the tug-of-war over a movie to be filmed about Sammy's life. There was more at stake, however, than just the rights to a motion picture and the murky issues surrounding her husband's estate. There was another battle, another tragic story unfolding - the one which no one ever spoke of.

Pamela Sherrod met Mrs. Davis in 2005 when she was looking for a ghostwriter to help with her autobiography. Altovise was married to Sammy, the legendary entertainer, for twenty years. When Sammy died, her world caved in, and she was practically buried in the rubble. While much was documented about her unconventional marriage, and her battle with alcoholism, following Sammy's death, Altovise became somewhat of a mystery. After many years of relative obscurity she ended up in Sarasota, Florida, where she was introduced to Sherrod.

When a recent book appeared about Sammy Davis, Jr. and his wife, a number of troublesome issues were raised.  With the new focus given to Altovise's life, startling new questions also arose, some of which were baffling. Missing were many critical developments that shaped the last years of her life. Altovise was never interviewed for the book, but had hoped to respond to the issues that were raised. She wanted to finally set the record straight and let people know who she really was.

Sherrod, her friend and partner, had the unique opportunity to know "the real Altovise Davis," the one who created magical characters for young people, and loved children very deeply. Together, they created stories for books and screenplays and formed a company called LilSamHat, to publish and produce them.

Sherrod, a Christian writer, also learned difficult lessons that would test her faith. From them, she'd embark on a ministry that she never expected to launch. Here, within these pages, she records the chronology of events that took place before Altovise's death, and the nature of her struggles and triumphs during the last years of her life.

Says Sherrod of the work: "It's a small book with a big message."
